| My mug cosy |
I used 5mm yarn - I personally love working with colour changing yarn as it gives a great effect on your project without having to use multiple balls of yarn. I also love cotton yarn as I find it a lovely texture on your hands, plus it’s more washable than acrylic yarn.
I’m not sure what yarn I used as it was just some leftover yarn in my yarn box.
What you need:
- 5mm yarn
- 5mm crochet hook
- Large button
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
What to do:
The stitch I’ve used on this project is alternating between doing a single crochet then a double crochet then a single crochet then a double crochet and so on - this is called Lemon Peel stitch.- Chain 9
- Skip the first chain and in the first row do 9 single crochet stitches chain 1 and turn
- Skip the first stitch space and following the Lemon Peel stitch do 3 stitches (1 single crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 single crochet), chain 3, then do 3 more Lemon Peel stitches (1 single crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 single crochet) chain 1 and turn - hopefully this three chain space hole you’ve created will fit your large button
- In the next row skip the first stitch, do 9 Lemon Peel stitches, chain 1 and turn
- Repeat Step 4 until you have the length needed to wrap around your mug
- Tie off and weave in your yarn with the yarn needle
- Using a needle and thread sew your button onto the centre of the end
- Once the button is secure you can wrap your crochet mug cosy around your mug and secure the button with the loop.
- And there you go!
